List 7 - I'ld like to learn that!!

This week's Listmania link up is about being a lifelong learner and things I want to learn. As I work in the vocational education and training sector I’m all for lifelong learning (and it doesn’t have to be of the academic kind).  The things I would like to learn include:

I would like to learn how to speak Thai
Hubby and I have been to Thailand a few times and have picked up words here and there. After one of our big trips I bought some how to speak Thai CDs with the intent we would learn. It’s so much nicer going to a country and being able to speak to them in their language. It’s still on the to-do list.

I would like to learn about beauty
I would like to learn how to braid so I can do my daughter’s hair – I can plait but braids elude me. I would like to learn how to make my hair look awesome with blow drying/curling/ straightening and so on. I did do a 3 hour course on this, but like everything, you need to practice to get good at it. I’m still finding time to practice. I would like to learn how to apply make-up that looks professional but natural. I rarely wear make-up, but if I do it’s a quick splash and I’m done in 5 minutes. And I would like to learn how to put an outfit together that looks awesome! I have no idea with fashions, trends and accessorising.

I would like to learn about parenting/discipline
I’m struggling with my son’s behaviour and am concerned how he will turn out when he is older. My daughter is starting to be testing also. They can be beautiful people – but real terrors also. I’ve read every book under the sun but can’t seem to get it right.

I would like to learn to be an awesome cake decorator
My cake decorating only comes into action for my kids birthday cakes – so twice a year. Whilst I can do enough to make them happy (at the moment, they are 6 and 3) I would love to be able to make professional looking cakes. I have done a basic cupcake decorating course – here are my creations! I’m proud of what I did during the course, but that was with all the right tools and an instructor on hand!

I would like to learn to be technically minded
I bought a HDMI cord to show content from my computer to my TV – haven’t quite worked out how to get it to work yet. I would like to know how to download movies and TV shows from the Internet (legally of course) – I have no idea.

Linking up with Deb at Listmania.

  1. Great list, Bec. We love Thailand too and spend quite a bit of time there. Hubby goes for work so he has quite a bit of day to day stuff but I have little more than hello, thank you. Beautiful country and people. I agree with the parenting topic. I have a very fiesty three year old and I worry how she will be when she is older. The fact that you are reading and making the effort puts you ahead of 90% of parents out there. I don't think we can ever get it perfect as parents but if we keep trying to do better it will be ok in the end.

    1. Thanks Claire. Half the time I'm not sure what I should be doing (all the books say something different) - but keep battling along.

  2. Awww Bec you just reminded me I want to learn how to do french braids for my daughter, everyone tells me the tutorials on youtube are easy so will look into that! Being computer and internet savvy would also be a good thing for me to learn! Emily

    1. My daughter won't sit still for me to practice braids - I need to practice on my sister or someone. And I would love to do it on myself but who am I kidding.

  3. i lived in thailand and thai is interesting to learn (spoken rather than written) you have to be careful with the intonation - in the market i asked for bananas (i thought) but asked for male anatomy instead ; )

please let's get technically minded together!!

  5. The cupcakes are fantastic Bec! I'd love to be able to decorate cakes too, but after a few tries I think it's beyond me! You reminded me of another thing I'd love to learn - to do little girls hairstyles - even neat looking pigtails would be a bonus.

    1. Oh yeah I can do pigtails - but my daughter's hair is weird (well that's my excuse) so they always come out lopsided! It took me about half an hour to do ballet buns for her ballet concert last year!

  6. Love your list, I one day want to speak French, that accent melts my heart, I heard a saying, no matter how you bring up your children, don't fret as they will turn out alright in the end, having two girls who danced for years and years, finally got the hang of braiding, technical stuff, just push lots of buttons, something good will come out of it xxx

    1. Hahaha yeah if I push enough buttons I should get the right one eventually! So there is hope for me yet on the hair styles - my daughter does ballet so I need to do concert hair each year (she is only 3 so still years of practice).
